United Way Tocqueville Society

Members of United Way of Berks County’s Tocqueville Society are our community’s leading philanthropists, sharing a vision of improving lives and creating community change. These members recognize the importance of community commitment and personal giving at an exceptional level.

The Society is named for Alexis de Tocqueville, a 19th century French historian and author, who traveled around the United States and greatly admired the American spirit of giving and volunteerism. The spirit of neighbor helping neighbor that so impressed de Tocqueville two centuries ago, is the cornerstone of today’s Tocqueville Society.

Tocqueville members demonstrate extraordinary commitment and generosity by contributing an annual gift of $10,000 or more. Members play a significant role in advancing United Way’s mission and positively impact the lives of many in need throughout our community. Now with 132 members, our Tocqueville Society ranks first among United Way organizations in Pennsylvania and second nationally when compared to similar size United Ways.

Levels within the Tocqueville Society are as follows:

Membres de la Société           $10,000 - $14,999

Humanité                                   $15,000 - $19,999
