Community Impact Staff Specialist (Full-time)
United Way of Berks County is seeking a passionate, bilingual (English/Spanish) early childhood education professional to join our dynamic team. In this rewarding role, you’ll support childcare centers and help early childhood educators put new knowledge into practice through the the Growing Readers program, part of our community-wide Ready.Set.READ! initiative for children from birth through pre-kindergarten.
Your practical, relationship-based support will help early childhood educators strengthen their daily work with children and create stronger early learning environments. Together, these efforts help children enter school ready to read, learn, and succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work as part of the Ready.Set.READ! team to support the Growing Readers program and build productive relationships with childcare center owners, directors, and staff.
- Provide practical, on-site support to childcare center teams to strengthen classroom routines, learning activities, and interactions with children.
- When appropriate, provide childcare center owners, directors, and staff with a state-approved curriculum, demonstrate how to use it in the classroom, and help address implementation questions or challenges.
- Develop and apply a working knowledge of Keystone STARS to support childcare centers as they complete the requirements needed to reach their next quality level.
- Recruit and enroll early childhood education professionals in the program’s professional development component. Support participants as they apply what they learn in their coursework to their daily work with children.
- Support assigned candidates through the Child Development Associate credentialing process.
- Maintain Growing Readers records. Track, review, and organize information about program participation, activities, and results.
- This community-based role requires frequent local travel to childcare centers throughout Berks County with own reliable transportation method. During on-site visits, you will build relationships, observe classroom practices, provide practical guidance, and help early childhood educators apply what they are learning through the professional development component.
What We’re Looking For::
- Associate degree or higher in early childhood education.
- Minimum of two years of early childhood education experience, including work in an early learning classroom such as Head Start, Pre-K Counts, or a childcare center.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with childcare center owners, directors, and staff and facilitate respectful, strengths-based conversations about quality improvement.
- Fluency in spoken English and Spanish is required.
